KUALA LUMPUR: Retail prices for RON97, non-subsidised RON95 and diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will be lower for the May 14 to 20 period following a decline in global fuel prices.

The government, however, cautioned that fuel costs remain higher compared with pre-conflict levels in the Middle East.

The Finance Ministry said, based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula, RON97 will be sold at RM4.70 per litre, down 20 sen from RM4.90 last week, while non-subsidised RON95 will drop by 15 sen to RM3.87 per litre during the same period.

Diesel in Peninsular Malaysia will also be reduced by 30 sen to RM4.87 per litre from RM5.17 per litre.

“Fuel prices remain significantly higher compared with levels before the conflict in the Middle East.

“Crude oil prices are still hovering at around US$100 per barrel, compared with about US$60 to US$70 per barrel before the conflict.

“Retail fuel prices are also affected by rising logistics and insurance costs due to increased risks in the conflict zone.

“The risk of disruption along the Strait of Hormuz continues to put pressure on global oil supply, which in turn affects market prices,” the ministry said.

Amid continued uncertainty in the global market, the ministry said the government would maintain targeted subsidised prices for certain groups. It said RON95 fuel under the BUDI95 scheme remains at RM1.99 per litre, while diesel in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan stays at RM2.15 per litre.

The Subsidised Petrol Control System rate is maintained at RM2.05 per litre and the Subsidised Diesel Control System at RM2.15 per litre.
